week three – frying pan à la gioia

i admit, the title is somewhat misleading. i didn’t actually cook a frying pan. but with one. oh jeez, i’m having a super funny day, apparently. slept in the joke box, as we say in swiss german.

to say i was uninspired this week would be the understatement of the century. i was way too busy packing, saying my last goodbyes, ice skating, watching disney films and cuddling rahel (i miss you) to be thinking about anything kitchen related. well, i am back in london now, where my selection of pretty plates and delicate dishes and classy cutting boards has shrunk massively compared to my mum’s kitchen (she has a bit of a dinnerware obsession).

so. back in the big smoke i thought i’d go for something simple and new. a rather unexciting concept, i admit. i even got as far as googling “frying pan recipes”. yes, that’s how bad it was. but ultimately an epiphany came to me: i would cook a frittata. i don’t think i’ve ever even eaten one of those fancy omelets before, but i liked the idea of their versatility. to satisfy my personal taste buds, i roasted pre-boiled potatoes and thinly sliced courgettes, added goat’s cheese and spring onions to the egg mixture and finally grated some gruyère onto the almost finished frittata. the frying pan i used is oven safe, so i popped it under the broiler for a few minutes for the cheese to melt and the top to brown nicely.

i served (to myself. sad life) the frittata with a simple salad dressed with a lime-honey-mustard-composition.

next week’s challenge: filo pastry.
