goodbye, marchymarch and welcome april, month of unpredictability!
to be honest, i’m not entirely sure what to expect of our newest book. i don’t even recall where i first read about it, but i do remember there being lots of praise, including the words (i’m paraphrasing) “every girl in the whole wide world must read this immediately”. and so here we are, ready to dive into the yet another story.
cheryl’s story, to be exact. according to the book itself, cheryl is “a tightly-wound, vulnerable woman”. she lives alone, works at a self-defense nonprofit and is hopelessly in love with her co-worker, phillip. as if life wasn’t hard enough, cheryl’s is turned upside down when she ends up taking in her bosses’ daughter clee, a twenty-one-year-old (we’re so old, aren’t we?) who takes cheryl out of her comfort zone and boots her right into harsh reality and the arms of her therapist.
now of course i’m asking myself why the book is called ‘the first bad man’ when almost everything i’ve been saying has been about women. i guess we’ll see, won’t we?
